Retirement

retirement (noun) the action or fact of leaving one's job and ceasing to work typically upon reaching the normal age for leaving employment.

I think there is a flaw in retirement thinking.

Waiting until my 60th birthday to start really enjoying life, wondering if I have ferreted enough money away, working in areas which are not my passion seems like a life wasted.

Living for the present moment with a sensible view of the future would seem to be a much better strategy.

I would rather create a life for myself now that contains all the elements that I want to do both now and in the future and make money doing it all along. The nature of what I do for work will certainly change, and the intensity will vary over time, but I will always have business interests whether purely investment, or active pursuits.

I am generally better learning hands-on rather than theoretically and I figure I should practice retiring from now rather than be under pressure to get it right when I’m 60 or 65.

So I have retired.

This is my post-retirement life. Sometimes it’s great, sometimes it’s scary but most of the time I wouldn’t do anything differently.
