Innovation Management Platforms

Innovation management platforms are software that gives idea intake, evaluation and project tracking one home, so innovation work stops living in scattered emails and forgotten spreadsheets.

Watch an idea move from intake through evaluation to a tracked project, each stage handing off to the next.

1 Pick the right platform 2 Define intake criteria 3 Route to evaluation 4 Assign owner and deadline 5 Review quarterly, kill weak ideas
The sequence that makes a platform worth the licence fee.

Reach for this when…

How to run it

  1. Pick a platform that matches your actual process, not the vendor's demo workflow.
  2. Define the intake criteria before you open submissions.
  3. Route every idea through the same visible evaluation stage.
  4. Assign an owner and a decision deadline to each surviving idea.
  5. Review the platform's data quarterly and kill what it's not telling you anything new.

A worked example

Situation. Pieter van der Merwe founded Boerekompas, a farm-management SaaS startup in Cape Town, South Africa, with 40 staff and three separate spreadsheets tracking feature requests that never agreed with each other.

Applied. He rolled out a platform with a single intake form and a visible decision board; every request got a yes or no within two weeks, logged in one place his product team could see.

Result. The duplicate feature backlog disappeared within a quarter, and customers stopped hearing three different answers to the same request from three different staff.

1 Pick the right platform 2 Define intake criteria 3 Route to evaluation 4 Assign owner and deadline 5 Review quarterly, kill weak ideas
Feldkompass's fix started with one intake form replacing three spreadsheets.

The catch

The platform captures ideas efficiently but does not evaluate them. Without real criteria and someone willing to say no, it becomes a much better-organised graveyard. And a platform bought to fix a culture problem, nobody trusts leadership to actually listen, will not fix that culture problem.

A platform makes losing an idea more visible. It does not make you better at choosing which ideas to keep.
